Railroad Accountability
Railroads are essential to Texas commerce, agriculture, and local communities. But when transportation power is concentrated without clear oversight, rates can become unfair, service can become unreliable, and communities can be left with little recourse.
Hogg supports creating a state Railroad Commission to oversee railroad practices, address unjust and discriminatory rates, and make sure railroads operating in Texas follow Texas law. This was a central part of his 1890 campaign platform.
Enforce the Law
Texas does not need laws that exist only on paper. It needs public officials willing to enforce them clearly, consistently, and without fear of powerful interests.
Hogg's record as attorney general gives this promise weight. He used the office to pursue railroad compliance, challenge corporate abuses, and insist that businesses operating in Texas respect state authority.
Fair Markets
Texas should reward enterprise, work, and fair competition. It should not allow monopolies, pooling arrangements, or private agreements that limit competition and place unfair burdens on farmers, merchants, and local communities.
As attorney general, Hogg became closely associated with anti-monopoly enforcement, including action against railroad companies accused of restraining competition. His platform continues that approach: fair rules, real competition, and no special advantage for concentrated power.
Land for Texans
Texas land should support families, settlers, communities, schools, and long-term public value. Large speculative holdings and distant corporate control can work against that goal when land is held away from productive local use.
Hogg supports responsible land policy that limits concentrated corporate control and keeps Texas land connected to Texans. This reflects the reform direction later associated with the "Hogg Laws," including limits on land corporations and foreign corporate land ownership.
Responsible Public Finance
Local and state growth should be built with discipline. Public borrowing can support useful improvements, but debt should not become a burden placed on taxpayers without clear limits and responsible planning.
Hogg's reform agenda supports stronger safeguards around public debt and bond issuance. The goal is simple: public resources should be managed carefully, transparently, and for the long-term interest of Texas communities.
Public Education
A stronger Texas depends on schools, teachers, and institutions that prepare the next generation. Education is not only a social priority — it is part of the state's long-term economic strength.
Hogg's public career is associated with support for public schools, state universities, and teacher education. The platform frames education as practical investment: stronger schools, better preparation, and broader opportunity for Texas families.
Honest Government
Public office should be a public trust. Texans deserve leaders who are direct about what they believe, serious about enforcing the law, and willing to stand between the public interest and private abuse.
Hogg's campaign is built around that standard. Honest government means clear rules, real enforcement, disciplined use of public power, and a state government that answers to the people it serves.

Texas does not need government that looks away when power is abused. It needs leadership willing to enforce the law, protect fair opportunity, and keep public trust at the center of every decision.
